Have you been kind to yourself lately?

Is there a voice in your head that tells you you're not good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough? Your inner dialogue can have a profound impact on your well-being. Frequent negative self-talk leads to self-doubt, anxiety, and even depression.

Engaging in compassionate self-talk can boost your confidence and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. It’s not about ignoring your flaws or pretending everything is perfect, but rather about acknowledging your struggles with kindness and understanding, just as you would with a close friend. When you practise compassionate self-talk, you create a safe space for your own growth and healing.

Here are a few tips to help you rewrite your inner dialogue and cultivate self-compassion.

🧐 Notice your inner critic: Pay attention to the critical thoughts that arise. What triggers them? How do they make you feel?

🥰 Respond with kindness: Instead of judging yourself harshly, offer yourself words of comfort and understanding (e.g. "It's okay to make mistakes," or "I'm doing the best I can.").

💭 Acknowledge your feelings: Allow yourself to feel whatever emotions come up, without judgement. Remember, all feelings are valid.

😌 Practice self-care: Treat yourself with the same love and care you would offer a loved one. Get enough rest, eat nourishing foods, and engage in activities that bring you joy.

There will be days when your inner critic is louder than usual and that's okay. Be patient with yourself and keep practising. The more you practise speaking to yourself with compassion, the stronger and more resilient you'll become.
