Struggling with self-doubt at work?
Ever feel like you’re just “faking it” at work? Like any moment, someone might realise you’re not as capable as they think? That’s imposter syndrome — a common experience of self-doubt and feeling like a fraud, despite evidence of your skills and accomplishments.
Anyone can experience imposter syndrome, and it’s especially common among high achievers and those in underrepresented groups. The good news? These feelings don’t define your abilities.
Here are some ways to manage them:
📝 Acknowledge your successes — keep track of your progress and small wins. Seeing your growth can remind you of your abilities and counter negative self-talk.
♻️ Reframe your doubt as a strength – instead of seeing it as a weakness, consider it a sign of self-awareness and a desire to grow.
🦸 Define success on your own terms – what does success look like for you, based on your values and progress?
🫂 Seek support from someone you trust – Confiding in a mentor, colleague or friend in an open, encouraging environment can help validate your feelings and repaint the picture.
